Recreation Ground Railings
The old iron railings that run along the edge of Wem Recreation Ground, adjacent to Aston Street, are to be replaced with new railings in the next few weeks. The replacement railings will be in a similar style to the old.
The existing railings have been deteriorating for several years and, in particular, suffer from extensive erosion at the base.
The Town Council sought advice to see if it was possible for the existing railings to cleaned and repaired as had been done in the past but, due to the extent of the deterioration, this was not considered to be financially viable.
The existing gateposts manufactured by W. H. Smith & Co. of Whitchurch will be retained and repainted.
